Status: Phd researcher
In 2016 Barbara Willems graduated as a master of science in Sociology at Ghent University. She did not only broaden her academic capacities during her education in Sociology, but also during a new two-year extracurricular honors program the University of Ghent launched in 2013 for 50 selected students who want to enrich their scientific view.
For her master thesis she focused on a theme in the domain of sociology of the family. Based on self-collected data, she studied whether adolescent sibling relationships in nuclear families differ from those in stepfamilies. More specifically, the focus was on the experience of status conflict in the sibling dyad.
Currently, Barbara is preparing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Piet Bracke, funded by the Special Research Fund (BOF) of Ghent University. In her PhD, she studies the social reproduction of preventive health behavior in Europe, its societal transformations and fundamental social causes. The focus is on comparative health research and quantitative methods are used.
