Status: Postdoctoral researcher
Holding a postdoctoral fellowship of the Research Foundation - Flanders, Michiel de Krom is affiliated to Ghent University (Department of Sociology & Centre for Sustainable Development) and to the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Social Sciences Unit). Previously, he worked at the Environmental Policy Group of Wageningen University (the Netherlands), where he obtained his PhD in 2010 with a study into ‘Food Risks and Consumer Trust: European Governance of Avian Influenza’.
Michiel’s main research interests are at the intersection of rural sociology, science and technology studies, and human-animal studies. His work principally focuses on analysing the roles of science and technology, public and policy discourses, and on-farm practices and human-animal relations in governing animal welfare and sustainable food transformations.
